HONOLULU, Hawaii (AP) Millions of people are taking advantage of a lottery that is drawing big cash prizes at a time when many people still aren’t able to afford them.
The Hawaii Powerball is drawing more than $8.7 billion in tickets in just three days, making it the most-prized ticket on the market.
Some lottery winners will get a jackpot worth about $2 million.
More than $6 billion is expected to be won from the Powerball jackpot on Tuesday.
That’s a record for the lottery.
But lottery officials say that’s not all it’s worth.
The winning ticket has a value of $1 million or more.
That means the winning ticket can be worth more than the total value of the winning tickets in the lottery, said Powerball spokesman Chris Schmid.
But if the winning jackpot is higher than that, it’s more than worth it.
That doesn’t mean the winning amount is higher because of the jackpot.
It’s more because of what people would have to spend to get to it, Schmid said.
If you’re not rich, the odds are you wouldn’t be able to win.
Powerball winners get a payout that is not tied to their winnings.
There are about 3.3 million tickets in circulation.
The lottery has had record ticket sales in recent years.
The last jackpot was $3.6 billion in March.
